Product Description
UroFuraginum is a medicinal product in tablet form, indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections of the lower urinary tract in adults. The active substance, furazidin (also known as furagin), is a nitrofuran derivative with a broad spectrum of antibacterial activity. It inhibits the growth of pathogenic bacteria within the urinary tract.
Indications

Treatment of lower urinary tract infections in adults.
Composition
One tablet contains:

Active substance: furazidin 50 mg
-
Excipients: maize starch, sucrose, colloidal anhydrous silica, stearic acid.
Pharmacological Action
-
Antibacterial activity – inhibits the proliferation of bacteria responsible for urinary tract infections.
Dosage and Administration
-
Adults:
-
Day 1: 2 tablets (100 mg) four times daily
-
Thereafter: 2 tablets (100 mg) three times daily
-

Tablets should be taken orally with meals containing protein, which enhances absorption.
-
Recommended duration of treatment: 7–8 days.
If symptoms persist or worsen after this period, medical consultation is required.
Contraindications
Do not use this medicinal product in cases of:

Hypersensitivity to furazidin or any excipient,
-
Renal insufficiency or creatinine clearance < 60 ml/min,
-
Diagnosed polyneuropathy (e.g., associated with diabetes),
-
Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,
-
Children and adolescents,
-
First trimester of pregnancy,
-
Full-term pregnancy (from week 38) and during labour (risk of neonatal haemolytic anaemia).
Storage Conditions

Store in a dry place, out of sight and reach of children.
Undesirable Effects
Like all medicinal products, UroFuraginum may cause adverse reactions.
Common (1–10%):
-
Nausea, excessive gas,
-
Headache.
Uncommon (<1%):
-
Cyanosis, megaloblastic or haemolytic anaemia,
-
Dizziness, drowsiness, visual disturbances, peripheral neuropathy (including acute or irreversible forms),
-
Respiratory hypersensitivity reactions (acute or chronic),
-
Constipation, diarrhoea, dyspeptic symptoms, abdominal pain, vomiting, pancreatitis, pseudomembranous colitis,
-
Skin reactions including alopecia, exfoliative dermatitis, erythema multiforme, Stevens–Johnson syndrome,
-
Fever, chills, malaise, superinfections with resistant organisms,
-
Pruritus, urticaria, anaphylaxis, angioedema, rash,
-
Drug-induced hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice, hepatic necrosis.
Drug Interactions
Inform the physician or pharmacist about all medicines currently or recently taken. Special caution is advised when UroFuraginum is used with:

Antibiotics such as nalidixic acid, aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, chloramphenicol, ristomycin,
-
Probenecid (high doses) and sulfinpyrazone,
-
Antacids containing magnesium trisilicate,
-
Atropine,
-
B-complex vitamins.
Use with Food, Drink, and Alcohol

Take with protein-containing meals to improve absorption.
-
Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment.
Warnings and Precautions
Consult a healthcare professional before use if:

You have impaired renal or hepatic function, neurological disorders, anaemia, electrolyte imbalance, vitamin B or folic acid deficiencies, or pulmonary disease,
-
You have diabetes (risk of peripheral neuropathy),
-
You develop fever, chills, cough, chest pain, or dyspnoea,
-
Long-term therapy is anticipated.
This product contains 13.75 mg of sucrose per tablet. Patients with carbohydrate intolerance should seek medical advice before use.
Nitrofuran derivatives may negatively affect testicular function and sperm parameters.
Laboratory Test Interference
Furazidin may cause false-positive results for urinary glucose when using Benedict’s or Fehling’s solutions. Enzymatic tests remain accurate.
Pregnancy, Breast-feeding and Fertility

Do not use during the first trimester or at term.

Use during the third trimester requires caution due to the risk of neonatal haemolytic anaemia.

Contraindicated during breast-feeding, as furazidin passes into breast milk.
Driving and Operating Machinery
No direct data are available; however, dizziness, drowsiness, or visual disturbances may impair the ability to drive or operate machinery.
