Neosine Forte 1000 mg is an over-the-counter antiviral and immune-boosting medicine available in tablet form. It is suitable for adults and for children over 1 year of age.
Neosine Forte 1000 mg Tablets
Neosine Forte can be used as supportive therapy in individuals with weakened immunity, in cases of recurrent upper respiratory tract infections, and in the treatment of cold sores on the lips and facial skin caused by the herpes simplex virus (Herpes simplex).
Neosine Forte tablets contain inosine pranobex—the active substance that inhibits the replication of pathogenic viruses from the Herpes group.
Indications
Neosine Forte tablets are used as supportive treatment:

in individuals with decreased immunity and recurring upper respiratory tract infections,
-
in the treatment of cold sores on the lips and facial skin caused by the herpes simplex virus (Herpes simplex) (Neosine may only be used in patients with a previously confirmed herpes simplex infection).
Composition
Neosine Forte 1000 mg – composition
One tablet contains:
-
Active substance: inosine pranobex (Inosinum pranobexum) 1000 mg (a complex containing inosine and 4-acetamidobenzoate of 2-hydroxypropyl-dimethylammonium in a 1:3 molar ratio);

Other ingredients: wheat starch, mannitol, povidone 30, magnesium stearate.
Action
Neosine Forte has antiviral properties and stimulates the immune system, helping to enhance the body's natural immunity.
Dosage
How to take Neosine Forte 1000 mg tablets?
Neosine Forte 1000 mg should always be taken exactly as described in the patient leaflet or as advised by a doctor or pharmacist. In case of doubt, consult a healthcare professional.

Adults, including the elderly (over 65 years):
Recommended dose: 50 mg per kg of body weight per day—typically 1000 mg (1 tablet) three times daily. Do not exceed 4 tablets per day. -
Children over 1 year of age:
Recommended dose: 50 mg per kg of body weight per day, divided into several doses. For children unable to swallow tablets, Neosine Forte syrup is recommended.
Swallow the tablet with plenty of liquid, preferably water. If swallowing is difficult, the tablet may be crushed and dissolved in a small amount of water.
Treatment usually lasts from 5 to 14 days. After symptoms improve, it is recommended to continue taking the medicine for an additional 1–2 days.
No data are available regarding overdose. In case of any concerns or discomfort, seek medical attention immediately.
If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible and continue treatment as usual. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed one.
Contraindications
Do not use Neosine Forte 1000 mg:
-
if you are allergic to inosine pranobex or any of the other ingredients (symptoms may include skin rash, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, throat, or tongue);
-
if you currently have a gout attack (severe joint pain with swelling and redness) or if tests have shown elevated uric acid levels in the blood;
-
in children under 1 year of age.
Storage
Store Neosine Forte 1000 mg (30 tablets) in a dry place, below 25°C, out of sight and reach of children, in the original packaging.
Side Effects
Like all medicines, Neosine Forte may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them.
Common (affecting 1 to 10 in 100 patients):

temporary increase in blood uric acid levels;
-
elevated liver enzymes or increased blood urea nitrogen;
-
nausea, with or without vomiting;
-
abdominal pain;
-
headache or dizziness;
-
joint pain;
-
fatigue, malaise;
-
itching or skin rash.
Uncommon (affecting 1 to 10 in 1000 patients):
-
diarrhoea;
-
constipation;
-
nervousness;
-
drowsiness or insomnia;
-
excessive urination.
Interactions
Inform your doctor or pharmacist about all medicines you are taking or intend to take, particularly:
-
medicines for gout (e.g., allopurinol or other xanthine oxidase inhibitors);
-
medicines increasing uric acid excretion, including diuretics (e.g., furosemide, torasemide, ethacrynic acid, hydrochlorothiazide, chlortalidone, indapamide);
-
immunosuppressive medicines (used in transplant patients or for atopic dermatitis);
-
zidovudine (used in the treatment of AIDS).
Warnings and Precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking Neosine Forte if:
-
you have had gout attacks or elevated uric acid levels (the medicine may temporarily increase uric acid in blood and urine),
-
you have a history of kidney stones,
-
you have kidney impairment (during treatment your doctor will monitor blood tests and kidney function).
In long-term treatment (3 months or longer), regular monitoring of blood, kidney, and liver function is required.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant, or are planning a baby, consult your doctor before taking this medicine.
Do not take Neosine Forte during pregnancy or breastfeeding without medical supervision. Your doctor will assess whether the benefits outweigh potential risks to the child.
Driving and Using Machines
This medicine may affect your ability to drive or operate machinery.
If you experience headache, dizziness, or drowsiness, do not drive, use machines, or perform tasks requiring concentration.
Contains Wheat Starch
Neosine Forte contains very small amounts of gluten (derived from wheat starch). It is very unlikely to cause problems in patients with coeliac disease.
One tablet contains no more than 20.6 micrograms of gluten.
Patients with a wheat allergy (other than coeliac disease) should not take this medicine.
